HCL Domino Ideas Portal

Welcome to the #dominoforever Product Ideas Forum! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

Merge conversations and rename a subject for myself

Merge conversations and rename a subject for myself

Workspace: Notes, Verse on Premises · Category: Mail template

Problem. Conversations break when someone changes the subject or starts a new mail about the same topic. Users then read one topic across several threads. Generic subjects ("Scan from MFP", "RE: RE: FW: question") make threads hard to find later.

Proposal. (a) Select two or more conversations and choose Merge: they show as one thread, ordered by date, without touching the other participants' copies. (b) Rename subject: a private display subject stored on the user's copy, shown in views and search, while replies keep the original subject so threading for others does not break. Both actions are reversible.

Benefit. Users can organise conversations the way they think about them, which today needs Outlook macros or third-party clients.

Related. NTS-I-1194 (conversation depth), NTS-I-1427 (comment on received mail).

How this differs. NTS-I-1194 is about conversations breaking past 32 reply levels, a limit of the automatic threading. NTS-I-1427 wanted to add a comment to a received mail and was solved by editing the memo. This idea gives users manual control that does not depend on the reply hierarchy, and a private subject that changes neither the mail body nor threading for other participants.
