Target Audience Visually impaired users, keyboard-only users, and power users seeking efficiency.
Problem Statement Currently, moving an email to the archive in the HCL Verse Web Client heavily relies on pointer-based Drag & Drop functionality. Visually impaired users utilizing screen readers, as well as users with motor disabilities who rely on keyboard navigation, face significant friction or complete inability to execute this core mail management task.
Proposed Solution Introduce a dedicated, top-level "Move to Archive" button within the primary mail interface.
Single Mail View: Add the "Move to Archive" button directly in the Thread Actions and Mail Actions toolbars.
Visibility: To minimize cognitive and navigation load for screen reader and keyboard users, this button must be placed at the top level of the UI and not nested inside an overflow menu (e.g., the "More options" three-dot menu).
Bulk Selection: When a user selects multiple emails or threads from the list view, the "Move to Archive" button must dynamically appear in the bulk action toolbar.
Technical & Accessibility Requirements
Keyboard Navigation: The button must be focusable using the Tab key and executable via Enter or Spacebar.
Screen Reader Compatibility: The button must include a label so assistive technologies can properly announce its function.
Shortcut Binding: Consider pairing this visual button with a dedicated keyboard shortcut.
Acceptance Criteria
Given a user has an email or thread open, when they navigate the action bar, they see a visible "Move to Archive" button outside of any dropdown menus.
Given a user selects one or multiple emails in the list view, when the bulk action bar appears, the "Move to Archive" button is prominently displayed.
Given a keyboard-only user navigates the interface, when they use the Tab key, they can focus on the "Move to Archive" button and trigger it with the keyboard.
Given a user with a screen reader highlights the button, the software correctly announces the archive action.
Business Impact & Value Implementing this feature directly improves our accessibility compliance. Beyond compliance, it significantly reduces user frustration, increases productivity for all users via one-click archiving, and drives broader client acceptance and inclusive usage across organizations.
