Mute a conversation on the server or on QueryOpen / scheduled nighly process

Mute a conversation on the server

Workspace: Domino, Notes, Verse · Category: Mail routing / Mail template

Problem. Users copied on long reply-all threads cannot leave them. Every new reply lands in the inbox and on the phone. Outlook (Ignore), Gmail (Mute) and Thunderbird (Ignore thread) solve this; the Verse request was declined in 2023, and the need has not gone away.

Proposal. A Mute action stores the conversation ID in the mail file profile. The router or a pre-delivery step files later replies in that conversation directly into a Muted folder, marked read, unless the user is newly added to To. Because it runs on the server, it applies to Notes, Verse and Traveler devices at once. Unmute restores normal delivery.

Benefit. Less noise and fewer mobile notifications, with no client-side rule to maintain. It is also a quick win for user satisfaction in migration-risk accounts.

Related. IDEAMLCT-I-48 (Verse mute, no plans, Feb 2023).

How this differs. IDEAMLCT-I-48 bundled "mute thread" with other Verse UI requests and asked for it in Verse only; HCL declined without giving a reason. This version is a single, focused request and moves the logic to the server (router or pre-delivery), so it needs only one action and one folder in each client. It covers Notes, Verse and mobile at once, which also lowers the client-side effort compared to a Verse-only feature.
