Welcome to the #dominoforever Product Ideas Forum! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

Improve Clipboard-to-Rich-Text Conversion Reliability and Protect Notes/Domino Document Integrity

Enhance HCL Notes/Domino to handle complex content copied from Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and other Office applications into Notes Rich Text fields more reliably.

When clipboard content includes embedded or scaled images, nested email replies, complex formatting, and associated metadata, the conversion process may produce disproportionately large documents or documents that exhibit errors and structural inconsistencies.

In some scenarios, users may encounter errors such as “Field is too large (32K),” incomplete document properties, or failures when opening, copying, saving, or processing the resulting document. Such behavior can affect document usability and, in severe cases, may be associated with Domino server instability.

Copying and pasting content is a standard user operation and should be handled safely, even when the source contains complex formatting or embedded objects. The conversion process should validate incoming content, preserve document integrity, and handle content that cannot be processed correctly without creating unusable documents.

Business Justification

Copying and pasting content from email and productivity applications into Notes documents is a common business workflow. Requiring users to save content as attachments or adopt alternative procedures introduces additional effort, disrupts established processes, and reduces productivity.

Unexpected document failures can also lead to data accessibility issues, administrative overhead, troubleshooting effort, and potential service disruptions. Where server stability is affected, the consequences can extend beyond an individual document to business-critical applications and dependent users.

Improving clipboard conversion reliability would strengthen platform resilience, reduce avoidable operational incidents, improve the user experience, and maintain confidence in the reliability of the Notes/Domino environment.
