The Domino Full-Text Search APIs currently return the matching document but do not identify which attachment contains the search hit. For applications that store multiple PDFs, Word documents, spreadsheets, or other attachments within a single Domino document, users must manually open and search each attachment to locate the matching content.
Please enhance the Domino Full-Text Search APIs to return the attachment filename that contains the search hit.
This enhancement would allow developers to:
Navigate users directly to the correct attachment.
Eliminate the need to search through every attachment in a document.
Improve the user experience for document-intensive applications.
Reduce the time required to locate technical information in large repositories.
This capability would benefit existing Domino applications that rely on traditional Full-Text Search and would complement Domino IQ. Since Domino IQ already identifies the attachment that contributed to an AI-generated response, exposing the attachment filename through the traditional Full-Text Search APIs would provide similar value to applications that are not yet using AI while maintaining compatibility with decades of existing Domino development.
Although returning the exact page or matching passage would be an excellent future enhancement, simply returning the attachment filename would be a significant improvement for Domino developers and end users alike.
