Full-text searches with wildcard terms are slow when document count is large

When searching databases containing millions of documents that have been full-text indexed search threads can become increasingly slow based on the number of search terms in the query, the operators used with the search terms, and the use of wildcards in those terms. The observed case was with many CONTAINS search terms where all contain wildcards at the end of each search value and the CONTAINS searches use the OR operator.

Currently there is no workaround. The best practice for any search operation is to be certain that your searches are as succinct as possible and include as few wildcards as possible.
